Javier Colmenero
Javier Damian Colmenero was born in Monterrey, Mexico. His first exposure to media came at the age of 5 when he was scouted by a German model that lived near the Colmenero Home in Mexico City.
Javier had speaking parts in a series of television commercials slated for national distribution featuring Nestlé’s Carnation Evaporated Milk, and Bimbo Bread. He also modeled for several magazines in Latin and Caribbean countries.
In 1973, Javier joined the KUNO Radio team as a weekend news translator. There he interacted with on air personalities Victor Lara Ortegon, Juan Aguirre, Jose Ponce De Leon and Hector Elpidio Barrera. It was through Luis Alonzo Muñoz that Javier caught a break on Saturday afternoons reading the news and further explored the glamour of media.
Upon his return in 1977 from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico, he joined the original team that launched Spanish news on KORO, Channel 28 during its affiliation with Spanish International Network (SIN). He worked side by side with news director Efren Palacios and later Roberto Perez. After sharing a first phase on Channel 28 as a news reporter and sportscaster, Javier joined the Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi in 1984. He coordinated and produced the first live television broadcast from the Corpus Christi Cathedral; the installation of Catholic Bishop His Excellency Rene Gracida.
This successful event took him to El Paso, Texas where he established a cable channel, a newspaper and co-produced an event at the El Paso Sun Bowl featuring an Italian Cardinal who attracted 45,000 spectators. One year later, Javier worked on the coordination and broadcast of Pope John Paul II’s visit to San Antonio where over 120,000 faithful gathered to see him.
Javier returned to KORO in 1988, and became news director and anchor. He remained there until 1998, when he was appointed to the Corpus Christi City Council. He remained in office for nearly eight years.
During this period he opened an advertising and publishing agency and launched the first commercial magazine with a Hispanic perspective that was sold through HEB stores.
Today, he is a consultant in the medical and healthcare industry where he has produced an interactive website, a magazine, a fully animated television commercial and a thirty minute infomercial, airing on Channel 3.
During his career as a journalist, he’s earned awards and accolades for his news reporting and investigative work, documentary production, radio and television production techniques, and graphic design.
Above all, he enjoys working and helping people…
